Kaunas construction boom set to continue

24 April 2018

Over 450 building permits have already been issued in Lithuania’s second city this year, according to the Kaunas district council. This comes after a 2017 that saw over 1,000 permits issued. The construction boom has seen more office space created in Kaunas than in the larger Baltic capitals of Riga and Tallinn. With further companies such as Hollister Incorporated and Hella opening operations in the city this summer, thousands more jobs will be created. Increased job opportunities in the city have attracted more than 26,000 new residents in the last two years. Of these, 9,000 have moved from the surrounding region, 14,000 from from the rest of Lithuania and 3,000 have come from abroad. The influx of new residents is stretching the current level of services. This is why the city will be investing over €10 million to expand and redevelop three schools in the city.
