KKR forms partnership with Transparency International

14 May 2012

Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. L.P. (together with its affiliates, “KKR”) today announced a partnership with Transparency International, the global anti-corruption non-governmental organisation.

Ken Mehlman, Head of Public Affairs at KKR, commented: “KKR is committed to responsible investing and believes that thoughtful consideration of environmental, social and governance (“ESG”) issues is a critical component of value creation. This global partnership with Transparency International will help us to further enhance our investment and company stewardship processes, specifically in the field of business integrity.

“KKR’s partnership with Transparency International adds to the firm’s network of external partners, including with Business for Social Responsibility, in the field of protection of human rights in the supply chain, and with the Environmental Defense Fund, with whom we founded our landmark Green Portfolio Program, driving the environmental and financial performance of KKR’s portfolio companies.”

Karen Egger, Head of Private Sector Programs at Transparency International, added: “This partnership presents a great opportunity for us to extend our outreach and advocacy in the private sector by being involved in KKR’s best practice meetings and working with its portfolio companies around the world. The global fight against corruption requires extensive resources and this partnership with KKR will help us have a greater impact.”

Transparency International is a civil society organisation that encourages private sector practices that are founded on integrity and accountability. It works with business partners that have demonstrated a commitment to an anti-corruption agenda through their internal policies and procedures and external activities, support and communications. Its partnership with KKR is the first within the private equity industry.
