Komerční banka is selling its building on Wenceslas Square. The price of the building, the main part of which is a listed building, will be determined by the offers the bank receives. The server newstream.cz reported today that Komerční banka spokeswoman Šárka Nevoralová said the sale is related to the bank’s long-term strategy. The bank had earlier started reducing the number of branches in connection with the covid-19 pandemic.
According to the server, the sale of the building at Václavské náměstí 42 was approved by Komerční banka’s board of directors last year. “I can confirm the sale. The price will of course be decided by the proposal of the offers received,” Nevoralová said. Zdenka Klapalová, director of real estate consultancy Knight Frank, also declined to comment on the price of the transaction.
The building is located in a conservation area and consists of three buildings that are technologically and structurally connected. The area of the building is almost 50,000 sqm. The building facing Wenceslas Square was built in the 1920s for the Postal Cheque Office, designed by František Roith. It is listed, including the interior. The newest part in the courtyard was built during a complete reconstruction in the 1990s.
Komerční banka previously sold a listed building in Na Příkopě Street, in the neighbourhood of the Powder Gate. In 2017, it was bought by the German fund HausInvest from the Commerzbank group for about CZK 1.5 billion. The building was recently bought by Trinity Bank, one of the smaller Czech banking houses. The price of the transaction was not disclosed, but according to a real estate market source, it exceeded CZK 2 billion, newstream.cz wrote in September.
