Krakow holding referendum on 2022 Olympic bid

4 April 2014

The city of Krakow will be holding a referendum on May 25 to decide whether its residents support the city’s idea to make a bid to hold the 2022 Winter Olympics. The city’s mayor, Jacek Majchrowski, scheduled the poll to make sure that voters would support the idea, along with the costs associated with chasing such a major goal. “We believe people will vote in favor of the games,” he said. The plan would involve some international cooperation, as the alpine ski events would be held across the border in Jasna, Slovakia. Other bids are expected to come from Almaty, Beijing, Lviv and Oslo. The winning bid of the 2022 games will be announced in Lausanne in July.
