Krnačová calls for end of National Heritage Institute

31 August 2018

Prague’s soon to be ex-mayor Adriana Krnáčová has pushed a bill through the city council that would remove the National Heritage Institute’s (NPU) role in the approval process. She says there’s no need for the office’s approval because the city’s monument’s department judges is already involved in the approvals process. “It would basically mean one less bureaucratic step,” she said. The NPU office criticized the proposed amendment, saying it would lead to the liquidation of the institution, though that does seem to Krnáčová’s point. If the amendment is passed by the entire city assembly, the bill will be sent to parliament for voting.
