The councillors of Krnov in the Bruntál Region want to have a new apartment building built in the centre of the town. An architectural competition should help with its appearance. The town expects to announce it in the spring, the town’s spokeswoman Dita Círová announced today.
“The town of Krnov will announce an architectural and development competition in the spring, the subject of which will be a residential building on a previously unused plot of land on the corner of Soukenická Street and Minorite Square, opposite the town library building,” she said.
The plot has a total area of 772 square metres. A new apartment building is expected to rise on it, which will begin to fill in the demolished missing city structure on náměstí Minoritů. It will become a model project that should also inspire construction on neighbouring parcels. The developer will probably be known by the end of this year, with implementation expected in 2027 at the latest, Círová said.
This is the first time that the town of Krnov has chosen a developer through an architectural competition. “Many towns, like Krnov, have no or even bad experience with finding developers. Often they fail to succeed in the area of aesthetics and functionality of the whole building, when developers do not accept these requirements and only go after profit. We want to prevent this by holding a competition,” said Vendula Hrbáčková from the City Development Department. Through the competition, the city will get more proposals from which it will be able to choose the best one, she added.
