Laszlo Bige, one of the richest Hungarians has been placed under house arrest. This comes after his arrest on Wednesday evening after the businessman was accused of financial crimes concerning his fertilizer production plant. According to the prosecutors Bige would cooperate with local farmers who received state subsidies for purchase of fertilizers and would use this to receive additional funds, misappropriating nearly EUR 6m from his company. At the same time journalists from Nepszava have mentioned that this could also be an attempt to intimidate Bige, as his former business partner Sandor Csanyi, who has government connections, is interested in the purchase of his business.
