Latvian government launches major affordable homes scheme

19 June 2018

The Latvian government has launched a pilot program which will see 800 affordable homes built in the country. The program, which was announced by Economics Minister Arvils Aseradens will also enable local governments to take long term loans for the building of new affordable homes. Homes built after 1993 make up just 2 percent of the housing stock and the lack of supply now means up to 80 percent of Latvians cannot afford to buy a home according to the ministry.
