The German grocer Lidl has plans to expand its workforce in the Republic of Ireland during the next two years. Currently the supermarket employs 4,000 people throughout the country and it intends to create another 600 jobs especially to its warehouse and distribution operations. Lidl has also suggested it will open another 40 to 50 stores across the Republic and plans to build a new distribution and warehouse center in Co Kildare are still being processed.
Lidl first began operations in Ireland in 2000 and has opened 146 stores across the nation since then. It currently enjoys 11.9 market share, according to the Belfast Telegraph, and is still expanding.
