Lifelong immunity of parliamentarians threatened

30 August 2012

Czech politicians from the center-right coalition could end up supporting a bill that would end the right that parliamentary deputies and senators have to lifelong immunity against prosecution. Under current practice, once a person has entered the Czech Senate or the lower House of Deputies, the only way that person can be prosecuted in the future is if those bodies give their consent. The new proposal would limit the period of immunity to the time the politician holds the seat.
