Lisbon City Council raised €500m through property sales

The Lisbon City Council raised €500m from the sale of buildings and municipal land between 2012 and 2016. Over the same period, it invested €248.5m in the acquisition of properties. Among the properties it sold was an agreement with the Portuguese government to transfer ownership of the airport grounds for €271m. The information has been made public in a document outlining the city’s management of municipal real estate. The document includes information about revenues collected from the sale by local authorities of facilities in Alcântara (€18.3m), land in Praça de Espanha (€12m), petrol stations (€11.4m), palaces (€8.8m) and the Court da Boa hora building (€6m).
