Statistics Lithuania reports that the number of building permits issued in Q1 was up 56 percent on the same period last year. The construction of individual houses accounted for the vast majority of permits issued, 98.4 percent. The total number of permits issued for such houses was 2681, with 75 permits issued for apartment buildings. Intriguingly, although the size of homes has increased 40.6 percent compared to Q1 2017, the size of apartment buildings has shrunk by 38.4 percent. A total of 309 permits for non-residential buildings were issued in Q1 2018, an increase of 36.1 percent. Of the total floor area of these non-residential buildings, 36.4 percent were designated for industrial buildings and warehouses, and 15.3 percent are for office buildings. Q1 2018 also saw the number of completed buildings rise by 22.5 percent compared to the same period in 2017.
