Liquefied natural gas (LNG) deliveries to Lithuania are expected to triple this year. Two new contracts were signed by the floating import terminal in Klaipeda, which opened in 2014 in an effort to lower the country’s dependence on Russian energy imports. The terminal’s operator, Klaipedos Nafta, said it secured contracts with Achema, a Lithuanian fertilizer producer, and Lietuvos Duju Tiekimas (LDT), a subsidiary of the state-owned energy group Lietuvos Energija. LDT is planning to import approximately 300 million cubic meters by October as part of a deal with Norway’s Statoil. Achema is also planning to purchase LNG from Statoil, the Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius said in January.
