Hotel stays are rising in Hungary, according to the country’s central statistics office, which reports that the indicator jumped 6.4 percent in October to 1.95 million. The office broke the numbers down further to reveal that the nights spent by Hungarians in hotels rose 12 percent (to 940,000) while foreign visitors checked in 1.7 percent more (1.01 million). German guests were the most common, though their total fell 2.5 percent from September to 160,759. The revenues generated by accommodation fees alone reached HUF 17.5bn in October, marking an 18 percent jump. The remarkable rise in Hungarian visits is being put down to investment in tourism and a national card for domestic tourists, but could also be connected with the weakening rate of exchange for the Hungarian currency.
