Logivest was able to arrange around 90,000 square meters of logistics space for the battery experts in the VGP Park Magdeburg. The nine units in total are spread over two halls and comprise around 88,000 square meters of storage space and almost 2,500 square meters of office space. Both buildings are currently under construction and will be individually adapted. The floor load capacity of 7.5 tons was also an important criterion in order to meet the high requirements of the EV batteries. A fire protection concept is currently being developed in partnership between VGP and CATL and with the involvement of external fire protection experts. From mid-2022, the high-quality lithium-ion batteries for car manufacturers throughout Germany will be stored in Magdeburg and delivered manufacturer-specifically.

Originally looking for a suitable area near the German seaports, the logistics real estate specialists at Logivest CATL convinced on the basis of well-founded location advice from Magdeburg. “The GVZ Magdeburg combines perfect trimodality in the middle of Germany and thus makes the state capital of Saxony-Anhalt an ideal location for the automotive supplier. Our colleagues from Logivisor.com were in contact with the battery specialists regarding another area. When it became clear in which dimension and region CATL was looking, we were able to take over with our location expertise and find the right space,” says Michael Starre, Logivest’s Chief Sales Officer.
The Port of Magdeburg is one of the inland ports with the highest turnover in the country and is independent of the water level thanks to a low-water lock, so that loading and unloading is possible at any time. An important factor for the logistics planning of CATL, which are also supplied from their Asian plants. In addition, the state capital is an important hub in the Deutsche Bahn rail network and the A14 and A2 federal motorways provide very good road connections to Wolfsburg and Berlin.
