London home buyers value rail transport

20 August 2014

Londoners who buy their homes are willing to pay GBP 42,000 more on average if the property is within a five minute walk of an underground or railway station. The Evening Standard quoted a study by the Nationwide building society measured distances of between 500 and 1,500 meters to guage what quick access to rail transport was worth in today’s market. The survey found that prices in London jumped 10.5 percent for distances of up to 500 meters, 7.6 percent for a 750 meter walk and just under 5 percent higher than average for anything over a kilometer. The paper notes that the best-connected borough of Camden has some of the highest prices anywhere.
