The strike by Lufthansa ground staff in Germany, which will begin on Wednesday and last until Saturday, will also affect passengers in Prague. The airline has cancelled 17 flights between Václav Havel Airport and airports in Frankfurt and Munich, Prague airport spokeswoman Klára Divíšková told the Czech News Agency today. She advised passengers to contact the airline directly with any questions or follow the latest information on the airline’s website.
“In connection with the strike, we are registering 17 cancelled flights in the following days. Two flights will be cancelled on Wednesday, seven on Thursday, six will not fly on Friday and two on Saturday,” the spokeswoman said.
Germany’s Verdi union announced the strike on Monday. Work will stop completely on Thursday and Friday and resume again from Saturday morning. The protest will have repercussions for passengers this time. The union is thus increasing the pressure ahead of the next round of negotiations on higher wages, scheduled for 13 and 14 March.
The strike for higher wages hit Lufthansa’s cargo division last Saturday, but passengers were not affected. A week ago, the technical ground staff also went on strike, and the protest was also without disruption to flight operations. In contrast, the ground staff industrial action two weeks ago had a widespread impact on air traffic in Germany, with around 100,000 passengers in trouble and several flights with the Czech Republic cancelled.
