Maitland City Center development approved

A mixed-use project has been approved in a north Orlando suburb. Maitland’s City Council approved the $65 million Maitland City Center development. The project would include a six-story, 250-unit residential complex and a seven-story, 505-spot parking garage with retail space, all on a 3.2-acre parcel between City Hall and Route 17-92 once occupied by a long-closed Winn-Dixie.

The Orlando Sentinel is reporting this project could be joined by a second project that would include medical office space, restaurant and retail space and a parking garage at the “Old City Hall” site across Independence Lane, the current site of a parking lot and park next to the current City Hall. A third project across Horatio Avenue to the south would include a grocery store, a bank and retail space.

David Lamb, the developer, said that he was trying to create a sense of community with the Maitland City Center project. He hopes to include retailers such as the East End Market, Starbucks and Chipotle as well as local independently owned restaurants.
