Masks could be mandatory for Czechs by Monday

23 July 2020

With the average number of new cases of Covid-19 now exceeding 200 on most days, the Czech Minister of Health Adam Vojtech announced that some restrictions would be put back in place beginning Monday. Details about the measures he’s decided upon are expected to be released on Friday, but there doesn’t appear to be any serious movement back to a state of emergency. Prime Minister Andrej Babis hinted that the restrictions would focus primarily on new rules for wearing masks in indoor locations. The number of infected people who attended a recent party in Prague night club has climbed to more than 70 and the total number of Czechs currently classified as Covid-19 positive is more than 5,000 for the first time. With hundreds of thousands of Czechs abroad on vacation , politicians are trying not to make the situation in the country look risky. If the Czech Republic were to be placed on the list of dangerous countries, travel agencies would be hit with another wave of vacation package cancellations.
