The Czech Republic is in for a rough autumn, according to its Prime Minister Andrej Babis, as the number of new cases of Covid-19 threatens to get out of control. On Tuesday, over 1,000 new cases were documented bringing the number of current cases to over 9,000. The deteriorating situation in Prague in particular prompted Germany to place the city on its red list. Anyone travelling from Prague will be required to undergo a Covid-19 test, or else to self-isolate for 14 days. But PM Babis insists the Czech Republic will not be resorting to another lockdown, claiming the country simply cannot afford to do so. Instead, he called on Czechs to behave responsibly, to practice social distancing and to wear masks at all times when indoors beginning Thursday. “We have a huge interest in a return to normal social, cultural and sporting life,” he said.
