Mercedes expanding Hungarian plant capacity

The Hungarian plant of German automotive company, Daimler is to double its 150,000 car capacity. The expansion may start in 2013 and the goal is for the plant to be able to produce 300,000 vehicles annually. The new manufacturing line is to be equipped for 2014, in time for production to start in 2015. Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing spent HUF 150 bn on buying the land of the future plant, while the total cost of the upgrade is expected to run to the tens of billions of forints. The company has received HUF 22bn in support so far, but is still planning to apply for further state subsidies. Mercedes envisions the creation of several hundreds of new jobs in connection with the expansion.
