27 January 2016

New York based insurer MetLife has achieved a company record by pushing out $14.3 billion in loans for commercial real estate globally in 2015, an all-time high in the insurer’s 140-year history. It’s an 18 percent increase from the $12.1 billion it lent in 2014. In 2015, MetLife teamed up with Norway’s sovereign wealth fund and formed a real estate joint venture with the New York State Common Retirement Fund. According to Bloomberg, the U.S.’s largest insurer is looking for a higher yield for its more than $500 billion investment portfolio amid low interest rates.
