The extension of Prague’s metro line A opened Monday with four new stations now in service. The extension runs from Dejvická, through Bořislavka, Veleslavín and Petřiny in Prague 6 and terminates at the Motol hospital in Prague 5. Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka and Prague Mayor Adriana Krnáčová opened the 6 km long section on Monday. Sobotka said the state will finance further infrastructure work in Prague, including the construction of additional metro stations. He also said that the government will help the capital build a rail connection to the Václav Havel Airport Prague, calling it a less costly option to building a new metro line. Work on the new A line stations started in 2009 and the project cost CZK 20bn. The new metro, however, has been criticized because of its lack of station parking and because the Veleslavín station, which will serve people arriving from the airport by bus, has no escalators.
