Travellers will be able to reach Bucharest’s Henri Coanda Otopeni airport by metro by 2018, according to the subway company Metrorex Director, George Udriste.
However, planned budget cutbacks will take their toll on the route, with nine stations now planned, rather than the original 20.
The airport line will being at 1 Mai, instead of Piata Victoriei as originally planned, said Udriste.
From there it will follow the route: Piata Presei Libere – Aeroportul Baneasa – strada Privighetorilor – Otopeni.
Construction is currently expected to cost around €1bn.
