Metrostav starts work on third tunnel in Iceland

18 September 2017

Metrostav started work on the Dýrafjordur tunnel in Iceland, an order worth CZK 1bn. The Czech construction company has been active in Iceland for 11 years and has already completed two tunnels there. It is working in a consortium with local company Sudurverk. The tunnel will connect two fjords, allowing for winter travel and shortening the route for cars by 30 km, writes the server e15. The construction companies will face rough conditions with 15-meter snowdrifts in winter, which ends in May. Logistics will also be complicated. Metrostav already built its own concrete plant to use during construction. The tunnel is to be completed in 2020.
