Metrostav will resume working on the Blanka tunnel, a key part of Prague’s inner ring road, on Wednesday after the city paid the Czech construction giant CZK 2.7bn. The project, marred in a payment dispute for the last several months, has been on hold since December. Both sides agreed that there will be no further delays. The project should be completed within the next five months.
The city will pay Metrostav an additional CZK 1.3bn for completing the project. However, the builder is now asking for an additional CZK 1bn for the construction of the Troja bridge, which is part of the Blanka tunnel complex. A court is set to rule on the matter by mid-May.
Metrostav stopped working on the Blanka tunnel in December, claiming that the city had not paid its invoices. City officials contested the validity of the contracts with Metrostav. The court ordered the city to pay Metrostav last week.
