MfD: Janousek to settle with crash victim

15 August 2012

The difficulties of influential lobbyist Roman Janousek have resurfaced again, with the daily Mlada fronta Dnes reporting that he’s reached a settlement with the woman he hit with his car in March. Allegedly drunk, he attempted to leave the scene of an accident in his car but ran into the 50-year old woman in the process.
At the time, Janousek was in the spotlight because audio recordings of his phone calls with various Prague city officials had been leaked to the media. They revealed the extent of his power and close relationship with these public figures, and suggested a deep level of corruption on matters such as land sales and urban planning.
After Janousek was eventually tracked down by police, suspicions swirled even faster because of what appeared to be extremely lax treatment afforded him while in custody. The settlement with the injured woman is said to be in the hundreds of thousands of crowns.
