Miami Beach Convention Center extension work to begin in October

4 September 2015

A groundbreaking ceremony for the renovation and expansion of the Miami Beach Convention Center has been set for October. The existing 1.2 million square foot center will receive a 200,000 sq ft extension. At the same time, a surface parking lot across the street will be replaced with a public park, and the parking spaces will be relocated. A convention center hotel was to be included but has been been blocked by opposition from the local hotel industry, subject to a referendum on the issue. Full construction of the project’s first phase will begin in December.
