Minister Mucha upholds Kepler’s payment

28 February 2012

Poland’s Sports Minister Joanna Mucha has suspended the payment of PLN 57,000 to Rafal Kapler, the former chairman of National’s Sports Centre (NCS) supervisory board. The bonus was to be paid under a contract Kapler concluded with the Ministry of Sports in connection with the construction of the National Stadium.
As he was in charge of the project, he quit after it emerged that the stadium’s opening would be delayed from June 2011 to January 29 because it failed to secure the occupancy permit in time. Mucha also revealed her decision to disclose two more agreements, both signed by NCS’s supervisory board vice-presidents, Robert Wojtas and Janusz Kubicki. WHAT’S THE BIG ABOUT THE AGREEMENTS? WHY IS THAT NEWS? The stakes ARE high, experts claim, as withholding Kepler’s payment could result in a trial, one that minister Mucha is likely to lose, Dziennik Gazeta Prawna adds.
