MOL denies bribery accusativus

21 November 2012

The Hungarian oil company MOL has seen its shares drop to a two-month low after the verdict of former Croatian prime minister Ivo Sanader, who was found guilty in taking bribes from the company. Sanader was accused of taking money from MOL between 2008 and 2009, in exchange for providing it with a controlling interest the the Croatian oil company INA. The charge has been denied by MOL, which describes the outcome of the court case “preliminary”. MOL claims Ivo Sanader’s case is politically motivated, claiming the prosecution lacks evidence.
Sanader has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for bribery and abuse of power, but is appealing the decision. Sanader became prime minister in 2003, and left the office in 2009. He was arrested in 2010.
