MOL leaves the Nabucco project

24 April 2012

Viktor Orbán has announced that MOL Hungarian Oil and Gas PLC are leaving the international Nabucco project, the proposed natural gas pipeline project from Turkey to Austria. The project is of strategic importance to Europe, as the goal is to reduce the Continent’s dependence on Russia. Orbán said that the Nabucco project is in a bad situation, even the Hungarian company leaves the investment because of some suspenses, although he would also like to decrease and end totally Hungary’s energy dependence within three years. Another potential route for the pipeline would be through Slovakia, Croatia or Italy, although these options would prove more expensive initially.
