More and more apartments on the Croatian coast are being leased for a long term

30 April 2020

Croatians who rent out rooms and apartments in the Split-Dalmatia region have seen their pre-seasons ruined by the coronavirus crisis. Encompassing roughly 185,000 beds, the owners of such properties are trying to make up the missing income in other ways. The region’s Tourism and Maritime Department reports that in the wider Split area, just 100 of its 8,000 registered rental flats have been leased.

Many owners have given up on tourism and are now trying to lease their apartments. In Split, one real estate agency reported that it had been approached by a dozen apartment owners looking for long-term tenants. The overload of supply has led to rates of up to 40 percent off the usual rate being offered.
