Slovak car production set a new record: the three car manufacturers in the country completed more than 1.04 million cars in 2016. The automotive industry is the main driver of the Slovak economy, and the country leads in the number of cars produced per capita, according to the Association of the Automotive Industry. The three main car manufacturers with plants in Slovakia are Korea’s Kia, Germany’s Volkswagen and France’s PSA. The UK’s Jaguar Land Rover is building a new plant outside Nitra in southern Slovakia. Kia manufactured 399,500 cars in 2016, while PSA increased production by 4 percent y-o-y to 315,050 cars. A total of 88,163 new cars were registered in Slovakia, up 13 percent y-o-y. This is the best result since the Slovak Republic was established in 1993.
