More young Hungarians looking to home ownership

27 June 2016

Two-thirds of Hungarians under 30 want to move to a place of their own within three years, according to data published by realista.hu. The majority of the respondents (53 percent) are young adults under the age of 30, who currently live with their parents. However, 24 percent of respondents already pay rent, while 17 percent own their own home, and 6 percent live in a dorm or have service accommodation. The main criteria young Hungarians consider when buying an apartment is its location, price as well as its current state, the data shows. Exposure and facilities are less important, as is neighbors and financeability. Half of the respondents are planning to buy an apartment using their own funds or with help from their families, though nearly the same percentage indicated that they will have to resort to mortgages, state benefits or other kinds of loans.
