The governor of the National Bank of Romania (NBR) has become involved in city planning issues by pushing for the protection of the Oromolu house in Bucharest.
The NBR chief Mugur Isarescu insists that the house, which is on the list of historical monuments, be protected from developers.
The Oromolu house, located near Piata Victoriei Square and very close to major tourist landmarks of the capital, is owned by South-African investment fund New Europe Property Investments (NEPI).
NEPI wants to build a 45-meter office building around the building, but the current planning regime allows for just 13-meter structures.
