The Czech LIDEM party will now head the Defense Ministry. The junior government coalition party, however, must give up its position in the Transport Ministry, which will merge with the Industry and Trade Ministry headed by Martin Kuba (Civic Democrats, ODS). Karolína Peake, the LIDEM leader, refused to disclose who will be named defense minister before she talks with Prime Minister Petr Nečas (ODS) today. She was quoted in ČTK saying that “there are not many alternative names”, but did not confirm speculation that she herself would take the post. Peake has proposed creating a new Ministry of Economy.
