Natural decrease in Hungarian population slows in 2016

The Hungarian birth rate slowed by 0.2 percent y-o-y in the first three quarters of 2016, according to the Central Statistical Office. There were 68,802 recorded births during this nine-month period and 92,437 deaths. While the number of births saw a slight drop, the number of deaths fell considerably during the period. The country’s natural population decrease slowed from 31,160 in the first nine months of 2015 to 23,635 during the same period this year, representing a 24-percent decrease.
