12 September 2022

The National Center for Research and Development (NCBR) has selected DMDmodular as the contractor for a pilot modular building for local governments, the Center said. The cost of the EU-funded construction of the facility in Mysłowice is approximately PLN 17 million.

The multi-family facility will be erected at ul. Karol Miarka. The four-storey building is planned for 27 apartments ranging in size from 45 sqm to over 60 sqm. The supporting structure of the facility is based on steel profiles, and 56 modules will be produced to create the body, representing over 90% of the volume of the entire building.

“Together with the National Center for Research and Development, we create a real innovation in the area of multi-family residential buildings in Poland. The speed of implementation, durability of technology, visual attractiveness of the facility and high standard achieved with world-class energy efficiency indicators make the project join the group of exemplary implementation of modular architecture. a chance to positively influence the change in the perception of modular construction in Poland,” said the president of DMDmodular Ewelina Woźniak-Szpakiewicz.

The project is the result of the work of a team of scientists, designers and technologists gathered around the DMD-M research and development consortium headed by DMDmodular. The other members of the consortium are the Cracow University of Technology and the Lightoffo company. The research group operates as part of a competition announced by the National Center for Research and Development, entitled “Energy and process-efficient modular construction”, implemented with EU funds. R&D works on the project began in June 2021. Their primary goal was to develop a multi-family, energy-efficient modular building, which is to serve as a ready-made model to be implemented by local governments throughout the country, recalled.

A number of modern, sustainable technologies have been planned in the building, which will affect both the comfort of use and a significant reduction in operating costs. It will be possible to obtain and store energy from the ground and the sun, and to recover heat energy from the used air. Photovoltaic panels will cover most of the roof and the southern facade of the building. Effective management of gray water and rainwater will allow, among other things, to use it for technical purposes and to irrigate the green surroundings of the building, the company announced.

The cost of the EU-funded construction of the facility in Mysłowice is approximately PLN 17 million. The start of the investment is planned for the first quarter of 2023. Ready, fully finished and equipped modules will be brought from the factory to the construction site, where they will be assembled into a single unit. This process, including all additional works carried out in the traditional system (including foundations, staircase, land development with parking lots), will take approx. 3 months.
