The Netherlands has committed to invest €30m into preparations to build a comprehensive network of electric charging stations for cars, but car buyers continue to be cautious about making the leap away from petrol and diesel. The funds will be used for site selection and preparation work. Local authorities are also considering installing smart charging squares in carparks and supermarkets. It’s part of a strategy to convince people that there will be enough stations to allow them to charge when they need to. This is being seen as the biggest barrier to widespread acceptance of electric cars. It’s thought that up to 1.2 million plugs for charging cars could ultimately be needed.
