Bucharest’s mayor Sorin Oprescu is hoping that one of his legacies will be a new 13 kilometer suspended highway connecting the east and west part of the city via a route to the north. The ambition of the scheme is evident in the planned cost of €1.5bn, though the complexity of the work could prove daunting. The six-lane road will require new bridges, train tracks crossings and two three-lane tunnels. Romania-insider reports that Mayor Oprescu hopes to drive on the road before his current term of office runs out in four years.
