New apartments costs Austrians ten annual salaries

13 July 2020

Austria is the third most expensive country to buy an apartment condominium in. In terms of cities, unsurprisingly, the most expensive cities are Paris, London, and Munich, according to data just released by Deloitte.

For a new, 70 sqm apartment, Austrians have to spend an average of around ten gross annual salaries; that assumes an average square meter price for a first-time occupancy to be €4,176.

With its moderate prices, Vienna is a relatively affordable city to rent in, writes Deloitte. An average of €9.90 per month is paid per square meter. That’s far lower than in Luxembourg where it’s €30.70 and in Paris where the cost is €28.30 per square meter per month. Deloitte was unwilling to forecast how the coronavirus crisis would affect domestic rental prices in the long term.
