Slovakia’s ministry of health is expected to announce a tender in the coming days for the design of a new Bratislava University Hospital (UNB) in the Razsochy district. The state is expecting to pay the winner of the plan for the new hospital roughly €17m. The government has come under pressure for its failure to build a new hospital in the capital in the recent decades, especially now that Penta is building its own new private hospital in nearby Bory. The private equity group turned down overtures by the government to buy the project, with Penta officials saying the city’s need of a new hospital was too important to leave in the hands of the state. Marek Krajčí, a member of the opposition and of the parliament’s health committee, said the location of the planned new hospital was excellent, but that the investment was late. “Fears about whether or not the state is capable of building a hostpial are extremely well-founded,” he said.
