A huge new entertainment complex being devleoped outside the Bulgarian capital Sofia is to offer a 2,000 room hotel, a casino, aquapark, conference halls, a shopping mall, office buildings and other facilities. It’s estimated that the €1.5bn investment would create 1,850 new jobs. This new Bulgarian Las Vegas was first unveiled in 2014, but no progress has been reported since. However, in May 2017, the China Daily reported that the project, called Saint Sofia, was being presented in Beijing as a high-tech innovation being pushed by China Belt and Road Initiative and that a new investor, ZTE telecom, had been brought in to provide IT solutions.
