New Czech construction law could be valid by 2021

6 February 2019

Czech newspapers are reporting that the new construction law is taking shape in parliament with incredible speed. The new legislation is designed to reduce the waiting time for a construction permit to be issued to be reduced from an average of 5.4 years to just one, by turning three procedures (planning, construction and EIA documentation submissions) into just one. If all goes to plan, the new law should come into effect in 2021. It’s not clear if that means developers could get things done quicker by waiting until then to submit planning documentation. The Ministry for Regional Development estimates a CZK 6.88bn bump in construction activity to result from the reduced waiting times, an estimate it considers to be ‘conservative’.
