New football stadium planned for Trenčín

18 January 2016

A new football stadium is in the works for Trenčín, a city in western Slovakia. To be used by the local football club AS Trenčín, the capacity of the new stadium will be triple the size of the old one and should meet UEFA criteria. Demolition work has already started on the existing stadium, which had a capacity of 4,300. The new stadium will have a capacity of 11,694 and will include a VIP section, Skyboxes and two LED displays. The stadium will also feature parking for 435 cars, 18 bikes and two buses as well as a cafe, restaurant and fanshop.

Construction is set to break ground in September, with completion scheduled for 2018. It is expected to cost €14.9m. The football club should foot the bill, using a €2.4m state subsidy. The city of Trenčín agreed that it would provide the site and will sell it to the football club after the stadium is completed for €200,000. The project, prepared by the Slovak football federation, is part of a nationwide plan to renovate football stadiums across the country. The plans include building new stadiums in Poprad, Košice and Trnava and renovating 18 others.
