New houses, shops and kindergarten to be built in Vokovice

Apartment buildings, commercial spaces and surgeries will be built in Vokovice in Prague 6. The investor will provide money for the construction of a kindergarten and traffic improvements. After several years of negotiations, representatives of Vokovice residents and the Prague 6 municipal district have concluded an agreement with the project’s investor, Crestyl. The residential complex will be built on the site of the former Aritma industrial building, according to Jiří Hannich, spokesman for the sixth municipal district.

A kindergarten for 50 children will be built on the site of the former factory at the investor’s expense, which will be transferred to the ownership of the municipality free of charge after its approval, thus expanding the network of kindergartens in Prague 6.

“We want Vokovice to develop and its formerly industrial part, which had warehouse and production functions, to gain new life. We have managed to negotiate that the investor will provide, in addition to the construction of the flats themselves, quite extensive compensation from which the locals will be able to benefit,” said Jakub Stárek (ODS), the mayor of Prague 6.

The project plan also includes space for services, which, according to a survey conducted by the Society for Hanspaulka, has long been lacking among the residents of Vokovice. “As part of the new residential area, we will also build a separate building next to the kindergarten and public transport stop, which will be dedicated to public services,” said Crestyl director Simon Johnson. These spaces are to be used for things such as a shop, doctors’ surgeries or a café for nearby residents.

The Vokovice area is burdened by the passage of mainly Central Bohemian cars – drivers often use local roads to avoid European Avenue. Therefore, an intelligent traffic control system will be built at the investor’s expense to regulate the entrance to Vokovice. The investor will also contribute to the reconstruction of the Vokovická – Půlkruhová – Na Krutci intersection, to the repair of V středu Square and to the revitalisation of the area in front of the entrance to the Divoká Šárka nature reserve near the Aritma tennis and football club.

The current industrial area will be replaced by a residential area with park areas. 18 villas with 224 flats and six family houses will be built on the forest land. The entire area will be pass-through. Construction is due to start next year.

Vokovice is part of the Prague 6 district. It has over 11,000 inhabitants and was annexed to Prague in 1922.
