New housing down on Romanian market

25 June 2014

There has been a decrease in the number of new residential projects begun on the Romanian market, which the national bank (BNR) attributes to a 7-percent decrease in remittances from Romanians working abroad. In fact, according to statistics cited by Xella Romania, the areas where there has been the biggest drop in new builds has been in the country’s northeast and northwest regions, where a larger portion of inhabitants have left to work abroad. Marius Dragne, CEO of Xella Romania, a leading brick producer, expects to see little change on the Romanian market this year. However, Xella Romania, which posted a turnover of €10m in 2013, expects to post a 10-percent increase this year.
