It took almost exactly a year, now the new logistics center has been completed: The Fiege Group is opening its multi-user center in Gengenbach, Baden-Württemberg. On the 73,000 square meter property near the German-French border between Strasbourg, Freiburg and Stuttgart, a three-story office building and four hall sections have been built. They provide around 40,000 square meters of storage space for various customers, including a large tire manufacturer. The operational start is planned for October.
The new logistics property in Gengenbach will receive the gold status of the German Society for Suitable Building (DGNB). Thus, the family company Fiege from Greven in Westphalia is implementing its sustainability goals in addition to its growth goals. “Alongside the area-wide LED lighting, a photovoltaic system and the infrastructure for e-mobility, we have also planned a wildflower meadow on the site,” says Jan Fiege, Managing Director Real Estate at Fiege. “In addition, the superordinate building management system enables sustainable cross-trade operations management.”
LIP Invest had acquired the project development as a forward deal for one of its logistics fonds and invested more than 50 million euros in the new building. “With the purchase of the multi-user center, we can further increase the location allocation of our portfolio. The property convinces not only with its location, but also with the high-quality and modern construction. Due to the large number of loading gates and the fact that the hall can be easily subdivided, it is suitable for a flexible use”, says Bodo Hollung, partner and managing director of LIP Invest.
The construction project was implemented by the Fiege Real Estate division in cooperation with the architecture firm Krüger Consult and Bremer AG as general contractor. Gengenbach’s mayor Thorsten Erny compliments the quick completion of the new building: “It is impressive to see that the entire new building was completed in just one year. We are now looking forward to welcoming the Fiege family company to Gengenbach.”
The new multi-user center in Gengenbach is used by Fiege’s industry and tire business unit. Christian Wierling, Managing Director of the division at Fiege, explains: “Gengenbach is a strategically extremely valuable location in tire logistics for us and offers our customers the opportunity to cover southern Germany as well as Switzerland and France even better.” The location in Gengenbach is the perfect extension to the Fiege location in Lahr, around 30 kilometers away, according to Wierling: “With the new multi-user center in Gengenbach, we are not only serving our own growth strategy, but above all that of our customers.”
