The Libeň bridge will be repaired, not torn down, according to Prague’s new mayor. Zdeněk Hřib of the Pirate party tweeted that the bridge would undergo a careful reconstruction, following a decision by the city council. That goes against plans by the previous administration to demolish the bridge and begin again. The Libeň bridge was built in 1928 and is in terrible condition. The city council ordered a study to be carried out by February which would formulate a plan of repairs. At the same time, it directed the city’s maintenance company to begin repairs on the bridge that wouldn’t require its closing, but which would at least stop the bridge from falling apart. This work will concentrate on stairways, railings and lighting.
