New Prague gymnastics hall to be named after Věra Čáslavská

6 September 2016

Prague is set to build a new gymnastics hall, which will be named after Czech Olympic gold medalist Věra Čáslavská. The city is now looking for a suitable site for the hall which it hopes to complete by 2019. The deputy mayor in charge of sports, Petr Dolínek, says the hall will host international sporting events. The investment volume has not yet been set. The city will launch a construction tender for the hall, which the future operator will lease from the city. Čáslavská won seven Olympic gold medals during her career in the 1960s and was an outspoken critic of the communist régime. She recently passed away at the age of 74.
